As the leasing instalments are paid via salary sacrifice from your gross salary, this reduces your tax liability and social security contributions, meaning that the net cost of a company bike lease is significantly lower than the leasing instalment itself. The 0.25% rule applies when taxing the non-cash benefit derived from the bike. This means that, as an employee, you can save up to 40 per cent compared to buying a bike or e-bike outright.
The duration of a company bike lease can vary depending on the terms agreed between the lessee (usually the employee) and the lessor (normally the employer or a specialist provider). The lease term is usually 36 months
By leasing a bike through your employer, you can benefit from tax advantages as an employee. Bike leasing allows you, as an employee, to use high-quality bikes or e-bikes without having to bear high purchase costs. Flexibility: as an employee, you have the freedom to choose a bicycle or e-bike that suits your individual needs and preferences.
Offering bike leasing options demonstrates that employers are promoting their employees’ wellbeing and supporting their needs. This can lead to higher staff satisfaction and retention. Encouraging activities such as cycling can create a positive corporate culture that strengthens staff retention and team spirit.
Yes, accessories that are permanently attached to the bicycle can be leased and included in the lease agreement. A bike lock with a recommended retail price of at least 48 euros is even a compulsory part of the lease with most leasing providers.
With bike leasing, part of your gross salary is used to pay the leasing instalments for the bike. Instead of receiving this portion of your salary as cash, you receive a bicycle. This reduces your taxable income, thereby lowering both your tax bill and your social security contributions.
